The Motherhood Collective
The greatest moments of my life are spent with my children in my arms.
Everyone always told me, “You will never understand the amount of love you have for your children, until you have your own.” In my younger married (childless) years, (I like to refer to these years as my “selfish” years), I thought I understood this. Just as everyone thinks they do.
Until that blessed day.
The day you hold the little soul that you carried around for nine long months. Little miracles. You marvel at their beauty.
As a photographer, I yearn to capture the simple beauty of motherhood for others. A snuggle. A hug. A kiss; the beautiful connection between child and mother.
A part of me feels such deep gratitude for being able to provide this artful connection for others. Another part of me regrets not making this a priority for my own children. Children need to have tangible evidence of this love. But how will our love be remembered if it isn’t documented?
Moments fade.
Memory fades.
If I die tomorrow, how will they remember me?
I want nothing more than for my children to know that my love for them is endless, fearless…that nothing, not even death, could stop my love for them. I want them to know that my entire purpose of life was them;
my greatest blessing, my greatest joy.
And so here is where some extremely talented photographer friends created “The Motherhood Collective”, a collaborative personal project.
I believe that all photographers share the same regret. Not getting in front of the camera nearly enough. Once a month, we will be forced to get in front of the camera with our children to document moments together.
